This is the web site, wiki and issue tracking database for the OSGeo4W project. OSGeo4W is a binary distribution of a broad set of open source geospatial software for Windows environments (Windows 11 down to 7). OSGeo4W includes QGIS, GDAL/OGR, GRASS as well as many other packages (over 150).

This project is under the umbrella of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation

About licenses

Quick Start for OSGeo4W Users

  1. Download the OSGeo4W network installer
  2. Run the installer.
  3. Select Express Install, and Next.
  4. Pick one or more packages to install, and Next.
  5. The selected packages and their required sub packages will be downloaded and installed automatically.

Notes:

  • Step 2 must be run on a computer with internet access as the installer downloads individual packages as needed. You may also need to enable your software firewall to allow the installer to have outbound access.
  • Don't blindly do a full install in Advanced mode. Some components require third party additions that need to be installed manually (see the wiki page of the package). Without the additions the components might renderer the installation unuseable.

After installation:

  • Desktop applications will be found in Start -> All Programs -> OSGeo4W
  • Command line applications will be available in the OSGeo4W Shell command window.
  • Web applications will be available at http://localhost/

OSGeo4W User Information

Older versions from repo snapshots

Each time the repository is updated the previous version of the setup.ini is kept. Old packages files are usually not removed from the repo (unless it necessary to, to make room for new one). The snapshots reside at https://download.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/v2/snapshots. To get an older version find the date of the package you want (eg. qgis-ltr-3.22.9-1.tar.bz2 from 2022-Jul-15 14:49 in http://download.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/v2/x86_64/release/qgis/qgis-ltr/) and then pick a https://download.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/v2/snapshots/ from shortly after that date, eg. https://download.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/v2/snapshots/20220715-190611/. Add that URL as User URL on the "Choose a download Site" page (or via the command line option --site). Picking qgis-ltr will then get you 3.22.9 instead of the latest version. I'd recommend to do this in a separate installation as in existing installations versions of dependencies probably won't be properly downgraded and will likely break.
