OSGeo does have an Apple ID (or used to) for signing macOS installers (GeoServer, QGIS, ...)

How is this an improvement over the Pass Key option, which seems more device agnostic and is built-in.
I'm hesitant to install more plugins especially ones that are device specific as it may cause upgrades to be harder in the future.
