Description

Hello SAC,

This is a request to migrate the Valencia mailing list(1) to discourse. I've already created the Discourse category(2) without further customization.

I can help with the process if you point me to documentation to follow, otherwise happy to answer any further questions.

Thanks!

Ok, I am taking care of this ticket, I will be making a progress report.

For the valencia category:

Will create a valencia group for new post creators.

So the security settings for the category will be

  • everyone: see, reply
  • valencia: see, reply, create

Had to delete the one that you created, I think it has to be under no category for the import, (have to double check that statement on staging)

The category has been created

TODO: deactivate the mailing list after last informative mail sent.

@jsanz

Please let me know when you did the following:

Send a last mail to the Valencia mailing list that goes more or less like:

---

Hello All,

We decided it would be better for everyone still interested in being on this mailing list to log in or register on their own to discourse.osgeo.org.

  • If you have an OSGeo account already, it is preferable to use with LDAP.
  • You can also log in with your Github account if you have one as detailed in

welcome message.

  • Finally there is an option to register using your email.

See instructions here: https://discourse.osgeo.org/t/welcome-to-osgeo/5

If you want an LDAP account, go to

https://id.osgeo.org/ldap/create

You can email PUT NAME HERE/email to ask for the mantra code, with following

  • Use the email registered on the mailing list
  • subject: "Mantra Code for Valencia mailist"
  • Body: link to mail on the Valencia mailing list that used your email

Details of what you need to do to continue to email the mailing list is listed here:

The Valencia discourse mailing list: https://discourse.osgeo.org/c/geoinquietos/valencia/40

Want to create a new topic? https://discourse.osgeo.org/g/valencia

The list of the old archives will still be kept here - https://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/valencia/

If you have questions feel free to ask in discourse.

Thanks,

@jsanz

Under your profile, add any email aliases that you have used in past to send mail to OSGeo mailing lists.

There is a staged Jorge_Sanz1 that needs to be merged to your account

Thanks @cvvergara for the assistance, this is much appreciated.

I've merged my two staged accounts into my main account without issues.

I've sent a migration message to the mailing list(1) and discourse(2) with the instructions suggested. And I can provide the mantra word for anyone that need it.

I'll leave a week to give folks the opportunity to answer the mailing list if they need assistance. After that I'll proceed setting the list as read-only. I'll close that ticket then with last details unless you instruct me differently.

Thanks again!

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

Final actions to migrate the list done:

  • Sent the message to notify on the list and forum of the deprecation of the list
  • Set the list with the emergency moderation bit
  • Set the list with the subscription request to be moderated.
  • Removed from the list information page template the subscription section to prevent anyone from trying to join.
Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
