kibbitzing is really for a group not just a few...
I agree that we can/should only retract releases if there is an egregious damaging mistake. That said, I do think that this is worth fixing in 2.6.1 and will change the milestone to reflect that. When there are some accumulated 2.6.1 milestones or more significant ones, then we can look at releasing 2.6.1. Jim, thanks for r862.

Updated in trunk to 2.6.1 as a cursory protection against this.
I am of the opinion that we can't (or shouldn't) take back a version after it is released, which makes this rather tricky to fix for 2.6.
What I think we can do: Add checking the version to the release guide. Fix it in 2.6.1 (however I don't think this alone warrants releasing 2.6.1.)
Ideas?
