Cannot split donut polygon

Description
Attached donut polygon (attachment contains only 1 feature) cannot be split with the split tool.
There is an error message complaining that "an error happened during split operation" or something similar in english.
Than the split line disappears and the polygon is back in its original state.

I don't think that is a bug - although it's not very obvious.
If you split the donut with one line, you get the same polygon (ie. one covering the same area), but it would be self-intersecting.
Splitting out a segment with a "V" line works fine.
