fTools: Incomplete & Inconsistent Union Result

Description
I run union function in fTools. The result of the process were incomplete as some of the polygons were missing. Here attached the summary of the process and result.

Fixed in revision r14537. Note that the files uploaded here (provided by the original poster contain a layer (Luse) with one feature with invalid/problem-causing geometry. This will cause errors in the union no matter what, but the changes provided with r14537 should address other issues, and should return more gracefully when invalid geometries are encountered.
Please test and re-open if required.
