A Keyboard shortcut for selection (alternative to left button click with the mouse, ie., Ctrl+Enter) would be handy for, for example, checking or selecting features at using qgis in the field.

Yes, but as someone else mentioned in the list, some shortcuts must be enabled by default. I suggest having 2 sets of defaults: one for office use (where using the mouse is convenient) and another one for field use (where using the mouse or the pad must be avoided as much as possible). I would enable this shortcut by default for field use.
(Also, note that my comments are based on 1.1.0, so no chance to test "edit -> configure shortcuts" yet, looking forward to it!)

Hi Agus,
maybe I have not understand your request, but the possibility to set a shortcut for "select features" in "edit -> configure shortcuts" is not enough? Please reopen if I am wrong.
