#2456 closed task (fixed)

Documentation update, correct PostGIS tarball version references

Reported by: kentr Owned by: robe
Priority: high Milestone: PostGIS 2.1.1
Component: documentation Version: 2.1.x
Keywords: documentation Cc:

Description

In several places in the [http://postgis.net/docs/postgis_installation.html#install_tiger_geocoder online documentation], the PostGIS version postgis-2.0.4SVN.tar.gz is referenced.

Propose changing the wording to be more generic, and changing the links to the official download page (http://postgis.net/source).

Set priority to "high" since the download links take people to older versions.

This applies to postgis overall… (http://postgis.net/docs/postgis_installation.html).

Propose changing the SVN instructions as well:

Alternatively, checkout the source from the svn repository http://svn.osgeo.org/postgis/branches/2.0 .

svn checkout http://svn.osgeo.org/postgis/branches/2.0/ postgis-2.0.4SVN

It's right for 2.0, but we need to update that to go to 2.1 docs now that 2.1 is the latest stable. As far as the other change, I kind of like it referencing the tar ball rather than having to search on source.

Anyone else have an opinion on that.

Milestone: PostGIS 2.1.1

I've corrected the docs alias to point at 2.1 branch docs.

If anyone has no other options about having link point to source page, I'll close this out.

kentr,

I'm going to close this out since the primary issue of it pointing at old docs is corrected. I'll also add to the HOW_TO_RELEASE docs to update this alias link to latest stable. If you feel strongly about changing path to postgis.net/source, please chime in and I will bring the topic up for vote.

If you feel strongly about changing path to postgis.net/source

Not at all. This is your project, and if you prefer direct links then I respect that.

The suggestion only was meant to relieve the need for changing the links to the tarballs on every release.
