I am hoping to produce a GDAL 1.7 package reasonably soon, but I have no fixed schedule.

I'm wondering if it ought to be part of a "reboot" process for OSGeo4W.

isn't GDAL already at 1.8 in osgeo4w?

A gdal 1.7 package was introduced some time ago, and now the default GDAL package is 1.8.
