Mentors-only mailing list for GSoC

Description

Could I have a mentors only mailing list for use with GSoC mentor-mentor communication?

I'd like this list to be called soc-mentors@…

It should be closed for subscription with closed archives, but I can take care of that once the list is created.

Thanks a bunch, Wolf Bergenheim OSGeo GSoC Administrator

I'm not really keen on us having mailing lists for which we are expected to keep the archives secure. If there are private discussion mentors wish to have, I think they should be held between the mentors and the SoC admin(s).

Yes mentor-admin communication is not the purpose of this list, but rather mentor-mentor communication, where mentors can talk to other mentors without the students listening in, if they need help with dealing with something. Basically the same as the google provided list but only for osgeo. By closed archives I meant that not world readable.

Does that make you more comfortable?

fwiw from last year's numbers this would mean about 30-35 people would be subscribed.

does it need to be archived at all?

if it does pose a challenge, would a closed google-group be the answer? (helps avoid mentors posting sensitive things to soc@lists instead of soc-mentors@lists by mistake...)

shrug, Hamish

I think the private archives option has worked okay in mailman historically - Frank have you seen otherwise? Seems like most of the sensitive talk happened last year on the soc website tool and not on lists, right?

If mailman is not the best solution we could set up an email alias - but that'd be more of a pain and have to be done manually, but it is an option.
