Set up FTP for foss4g2009 workshop file uploads

Reported by: Jeff McKenna Owned by: warmerdam

Description

Similar to ticket:287 (2008) and ticket:132 (2007) we need an FTP account for presenters to upload their FOSS4G2009 workshop files (data, software, printing material, images).

Notes:

  • need a large amount of space to handle VMs and images, such as 100 GB
  • user should be 'foss4g2009'
  • restrict the 'foss4g2009' user to have a default directory of /home/foss4g2009/

Note that for 2007 we used an account on 'hypersphere.telascience.org' and for 2008 we used a donated account on 'styx.org'

Can someone point me to who I should nudge for this?

Jeff,

Is this just for the workshop presenters or also the regular presenters? I gather there is only about 10 workshops, so if that is all perhaps we could just have them operate via scp/sftp instead of trying to setup ftp software?

I see we have 70GB on the lightly used .216 server. We could use it for this purpose for a few months.

Frank,

This is only for workshop presenters. scp/sftp is acceptable also. The 70GB server might do fine.

Status: newassigned

Jeff,

I have created the account foss4g2009 on the system buildtest.osgeo.org, and modified the home directory to be /osgeo/foss4g2009 (the big disk). This is a local account (not an LDAP account), and has no special priveledges but otherwise has regular shell access on the system. I will email you the password directly.

Frank,

This works (I have connected through ssh and sftp). Marking as fixed, thanks.
