Description (last modified by jive)

The General category pinned post "Welcome to OSGeo" ... is about using LDAP to avoid the system admin committee needing to merge your account.

Here are some things you can do to get started:

If you have an OSGeo LDAP account:

  • ALWAYS USE with OSGeo Gitea or with LDAP button to log in.
  • DO NOT USE the left side of the image bellow (aka, try to register with an email)
  • DO NOT USE Log in with GitHub

I would like to see it rewritten to focus on public visitors (our main target audience as a foundation), developers (our second target audience), and osgeo members (who indeed can be asked to login with LDAP).

I kept the prior text as part of the discussion thread reformatting with headings: https://discourse.osgeo.org/t/welcome-to-osgeo/5/3

This way we do not lose content, and by having a heading "tips for osgeo members" or "if you have multiple email addresses" it is clear we are doing troubleshooting rather than introduction.

There is a little bit of text that puzzles me:

If you need help or have a suggestion, feel free to ask in #site-feedback or contact the admins 3.

What is #site-feedback? Is that a reference to the chat system we have not turned on?

No. I think it is meant to be this category - https://discourse.osgeo.org/c/discourse-issues-and-requests/19

I was looking at the FAQ and it went to a 404, so I liked it to that category. I think when we installed discourse, it installed that category, and we must have renamed it along the line
