Description ¶
Hi!
Based on our discussion over the email, we think that it is a great idea to create a new cross-platform communication channel named OSGeo-GSoC.
Requesting to help us in getting this setup. Thank you.

Yes. If we can connect it to Gitter and Telegram, then it would be awesome.
Thank you for your efforts.

This is pretty much self-service. Did you try just creating the matrix room ? Anyone can create a room, and anyone with an account on an homeserver can register aliases for the room on that homeserver's directory.
I'd start there. Any bridging would require a given "administrative privilege" on both sides of the bridge.

the matrix part I know is self-service, but wasn't clear on how the whole bridging to libera.chat and telegram etc works.

I've created the matrix room and invited cvvergara and strk. Rajat I couldn't find you on the homeserver, so invited you by email. Not sure if that worked or not.
@strk,
How do I do the libera.chat / telegram connection part?

Thanks for the inputs, @strk @robe.
@robe: I accepted the invite and can see the channel on Matrix now. Also, I created a new room on Gitter with main address #osgeo-gsoc:gitter.im I reckon we need to add this main address in the room settings of Matrix OSGeo GSoC channel under the local addresses. I tried doing it but couldn't succeed as it might require Admin access. I have shared the invite for Gitter channel with @robe, @cvvergara, @strk.
If this works, maybe we can perform the same steps for Telegram/libera.chat! :)

Sorry just noticing this. Rajat, I promoted you to Admin of the room

talked about this. @rajatshinde, since you have already created a Gitter room, we don't need an OSGeo-SAC one as the gitter.im (is a matrix) and can be aliased on osgeo matrix as we do with pgrouting. But I can't find the one you created on gitter and didn't get an invite I am aware of.

Sure, I got it. This is the link (https://matrix.to/#/!vAovgiQHdPiQwYZxZs:gitter.im?via=gitter.im) for the Gitter OSGeo-GSoC. From what I understand, we can keep anyone of it and use it from both the clients (Matrix and Gitter clients), is that right?

I assume so. I access pgRouting with my matrix client.

I'm confused I got invited to a new thing OSGeo GSoC space, but it's marked as private and seems to be a whole space with a General room. I thought we just want a room.
Ahh! I kept it private so that once things are set, we can make it public!
It seems I made it more complex than it really is...What's the way ahead? Should I just delete the Gitter space?

I'm not sure how gitter works. Is it possible to just create a regular old room like the pgRouting one? That's all we need. Alternatively we could just forgot Gitter entirely and keep the osgeo one. but I'm not sure if the osgeo one would be reachable from Gitter but Gitter can be aliased on osgeo.
I also don't think we need an IRC channel too. Just seems like more overhead to manage

Yes, definitely. It is possible to create a regular room. I created a new one with the link (https://matrix.to/#/!vTqZigteINmfdWEabz:gitter.im?via=gitter.im) and have sent the invitations (please check your email).
I will delete the confusing GSoC space. I agree, we don't need IRC.

Why does it take invites again ? MatrixError: [403] You are not invited to this room. (https://matrix.osgeo.org/_matrix/client/r0/join/!vTqZigteINmfdWEabz%3Agitter.im)
I presume by cross platform, you want it as a libera.chat channel and matrix channel?
