FOSS4G2008 new website DNS change request

Hi Frank Please point the DNS to the new site. i.e. www.foss4g2008.org needs to point to ​http://conference.osgeo.org/index.php/foss4g/2008 - can you set it for fast propagation starting asap?

Perhaps you or Tyler could do some Apache config so the index.php doesn't have to appear in the path?

And you might as well get the other combinations the lists have been discussing pointing there too: www.foss4g.org/2008, foss4g.osgeo.org/2008, etc.

Proper registration is set to launch 1 March. There's still lots of work to do on the new site but it's a lot better than the old one. Momentum is building up so it's best for new punters to go straight to the new site. We're also about to put an ad out in PositionIT and marketing is only going to build up from now.

I have modified the pairnic entries for foss4g2008.org and www.foss4g2008.org to point to 66.223.95.243.

I have added /etc/httpd/conf.d/hosts/foss4g2008.org.conf on osgeo2 with these contents:

<VirtualHost 66.223.95.243:80>
   ServerName www.foss4g2008.org
   DocumentRoot /var/www/html
   Redirect / http://conference.osgeo.org/index.php/foss4g/2008
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost 66.223.95.243:80>
   ServerName foss4g2008.org
   DocumentRoot /var/www/html
   Redirect / http://conference.osgeo.org/index.php/foss4g/2008
</VirtualHost>

I believe this should take care of the redirection. DNS propagation/refresh time is set to 1 day for this domain.

Please let me know if there are any problems.

great, it's working (almost), thanks Frank It's going here ​http://conference.osgeo.org/index.php/foss4g/2008index.php (home page of FOSS4G series) instead of here ​http://conference.osgeo.org/index.php/foss4g/2008 (home page of 2008 instance). Not sure what's controlling that. gav

The DNS hasn't propagated to me yet, but several people in #osgeo tried the url and report the correct redirection. So I'm quite confused.

Is it possible you use the url ​http://www.foss4g2008.org/index.php?
