Actually I just received word from the local committee that the referral site is http://foss4g.cafe24.com/ not http://foss4g2015.wordpress.com/

(so http://2015.foss4g.org/ should point to http://foss4g.cafe24.com/)

Keywords: DNS FOSS4G added

First, at this time 2015.foss4g.org seems to be a *redirect* set up at our DNS Registry to http://foss4g2015.wordpress.com.

So I guess we need to configure a CNAME record to foss4g.cafe24.com instead of a redirect so our domain is maintained as the main one. Then probably some configuration will be needed on cafe24 side.

Second, http://www.foss4g.org is now a list of links to previous editions. Do you want to override that page with a redirect to 2015? We shouldn't do a reverse proxy to 2015 for SEO reasons. Google and other searching enginens doesn't like that the same web pages are offered by different URLs so a redirect (301 code) it's preferred.

  • re: first point: um, did you do that redirect? Weird, something has changed in the last hour. Actually 2015.foss4g.org should redirect to http://foss4g.cafe24.com/ (I was told by Sanghee this morning to not use the wordpress link at all).
  • re: second point: No www.foss4g.org is to remain as-is. The redirect of 2015.foss4g.org to http://foss4g.cafe24.com/ is similar to other years (2014.foss4g.org 2013.foss4g.org 2011.foss4g.org etc) I am not sure why you are asking about the main foss4g.org page.

Forget the second part, sorry, I misunderstood your request.

Regarding the first part, I did nothing. That was set up by someone else before this ticket. I don't have access to the DNS Registry. Looking at #1415, apparently Martin can do that.

Very odd, so someone made the change by watching this ticket and not updating the ticket?

Just to clarify: what we need is for 2015.foss4g.org to redirect to http://foss4g.cafe24.com/ and in the browser '2015.foss4g.org' should appear (which I assumed was what you referred to earlier as a reverse proxy).

Right there are 2 ways to handle this. (3rd option being, move the site to OSGeo)

Option 1: DNS points directly to cafe24 servers.

  1. We would need to know what ip to point at, be it direct servers or Cafe24 dns.
  2. Cafe24 would need to allow custom domain configuration
  3. Eventually for registration we would need Cafe24 to support https configuration.

Option 2: ProxyPass from OSGeo server

  1. Simple to configure on the OSGeo side nothing to do on the cafe24 side
  2. Con: HTTPS will be a big pain as the connection from the OSGeo server would need to hit an https side at Cafe24. I would advise against any user registration system without https.

Sine the Cafe24 site is in Korean, someone fluent is going to need to figure out the capabilities and instructions on that end.

I believe Option2 is what was enabled for ticket#1421 correct? I think that is what they are looking for.

Waiting for input from someone more directly involved could be helpful. I just suggested that to some of the 2015 team. I also explained the SAC process a little bit (i.e. opening tickets for things like this). In my experience, using intermediaries and relaying messages and multiple people providing information and trying to help often makes things more difficult despite everyone's intention to help. Below is some information that I got earlier today from Hanjin, let's wait for more input from Hanjin (now on cc).

Hello I’m Hanjin.

I'm responsible for FOSS4G 2015 website. Our team has created a official website complete the set.

Currently, FOSS4G 2015 domain(http://2015.foss4g.org/) is connected to wordpress.com(http://foss4g2015.wordpress.com).

Have to connect the new server, could you change the server setting?

A record set server IP address is as follows:

183.111.174.16 (http://foss4g.cafe24.com)

Please contact if you need more information.

@Elil please try to understand, this is not a normal situation. There are cultural issues here, and they have turned to me to 'make this happen'. I am sorry if it does not follow normal protocol, but, sometimes we just have to 'git er done'.

Hi, anyone is handling this issue?

I've just checked that our hosting service is ready to go with 2015.foss4g.org. I think there should be 183.111.174.16 as an A record on foss4g.org.

Thank you very much.

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

You don't need to shout at us ....

The site looks functional to me, DNS A record established.
