GDAL driver PDF

It seems like by installing the latest GDAL release the pdflib is also selected but the driver is not available at command line (gdalinfo --format PDF). Does the driver depend on some other third party library? Could we have the driver built by default on GDAL distribution or as an optional plugin?

The PDF driver is there now - although only for output.
