Wiktionary software installation on "osgeo2"

Description

Dear SAC,

I would like to request a test installation of the Wiktionary software ( http://www.wiktionary.org/) on "osgeo2" to create a test built for the EduCom "Multi-language OSGeo dictionary". The proposal is found at:

 http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/OSGeo_Multilanguage_Dictionary

I assume that Wiktionary is the same thing as Mediawiki.

Martin Spott volunteered to install it if SAC is ok with the idea.

thanks in advance, Markus

Dear SAC,

time has come to really install and start the proposed multi-language OSGeo dictionary:

 http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/OSGeo_Multilanguage_Dictionary

We are going to create content now (for a new book project) and would like to use this dictionary engine as platform. Edu-Com is also waiting for the installation.

We would kindly ask to you to install Wiktionary software ( http://www.wiktionary.org/) and create the virtual host:

 http://geodictionary.osgeo.org

for this. The license would be

 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

which would be needed to show up at page(s) bottom.

thanks, Markus

I'll take a look at this Markus. If anyone from SAC is around and wants to talk about it, I'll be on IRC.

I've discussed with some from the wiktionary team. Wiktionary.org merely uses a mediawiki installation with a bunch of extra templates and conventions. There are no clear install instructions to match their existing set up. I suggest that we use wiktionary.org directly for our terms instead of installing a custom instance. It will not be straightforward otherwise.

We could create a category for "geospatial" to help track our terms in their system if we want.  http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:Geography is also a good start.

Make sense?

Sorry to insist... what about installing just-another-mediawiki-instance on  http://geodictionary.osgeo.org? Forget about template stuff for now? We need multi-language and article style - both is available in standard mediawiki.

As far as I understand, 'Wiktionary' doesn't have any customized software to offer, they just have this web 'portal' - at least I'm unable to spot any pointer to the software they use .... and as far as I remember this is the point where I got stuck earlier this year.

If someone tells me how/where to find their special 'Wiktionary' software, then I'll try to install it,

Martin.

http://geodictionary.osgeo.org/ is alife and has a 'standard' MediaWiki? install,

Martin.
