Steve these fixes have only been tested against the Autodesk Raster Provider right? That is, we're not sure if this fixes the GDAL problems or not (most likely not).

Correct! The fixes and tests are done only for the Autodesk Raster provider though the changes in MG do help improve the GDAL stability to some extent.
