Save FeatureSource Configuration Document in Edit Mode throws Error

Description
Maestro allows viewing and editing of the associated configuration document of a .FeatureSource (such as a GDAL or WMS raster).
The XML editor opens from the "Edit Configuration Document" button.
Hitting "Save" in the XML editor throws the good old 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' in the XML Validation Results dialog box that is shown.

That error is caused by the XML editor attempting to validate the XML content as though it were resource content XML, which is obviously not the case.
A fix is on its way
