UbuntuGIS repository does not have a Release file

Description
I followed the instructions here:
http://trac.osgeo.org/ubuntugis/wiki/UbuntuGISRepository
then:
$ sudo apt-get update
[...]
Err:4 http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ppa/ubuntu yakkety Release 404 Not Found
[...]
E: The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ppa/ubuntu yakkety Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.

$
I tried both repositories, stable and unstable (not together), and the problem remains. I also tried removing and reinstalling the key, no luck.

Packages are only available for the Ubuntu LTS releases. This has been clarified in the wiki.
