Description
configure doesn't autodetect a default install of protobuf-c-devel in the "usual system place" on amazon linux

Are this and #4419 related? I guess that amazon linux doesn't come with the minimum required protobuf-c installed and, as the build fails silently, it wasn't that autodetect isn't working but that it only spits a warning which is easy to overlook.

hmm is your pkg-config up to date? I think it uses that to detect protobuf now.
I had to change my code to stuff all my protobuf stuff in pkg-config
