Implicit XML casts driven by GUC ?

Description
It would be interesting to research on having implicit casts to XML using the GML representation. The only way to control how the GML should look like (version, prefixes etc) would then be trough GUC.
Doing so would integrate better into PostgreSQL built-in XML type functions.
