The following directory appears to be missing on the v17 alpha release:
/usr/local/share/data/natural_earth2
The MapServer Quickstart (and I guess others) rely on this data. The shortcut to the above directory is also missing: ~/data/natural_earth2

Natural earth data have been added in latest build 84
http://download.osgeo.org/livedvd/nightly/osgeolive-nightly-build84-amd64-50c0fd6-master.iso
The disk space taken is more than 700mb so we need to reduce that somehow.

Sample data size is a problem right now, we need to reduce the size. We should consider not to duplicate natural earth both as shapefiles and postgis tables.

I added https://github.com/OSGeo/OSGeoLive/pull/395 to fix Natural Earth download - but this seems to be unrelated to the missing data.
