otb: can't find qb_RoadExtract.tif dataset listed in quickstart

Reported by: camerons Owned by: live-demo@…
Priority: minor Milestone: OSGeoLive8.0
Component: OSGeoLive Keywords: OTB, Quickstart, 7.0
Cc: live-demo@…, manuelgrizonnet

Description

OTB Quickstart includes: "Select an raster image, using File ‣ Open Dataset ‣ /home/user/otb/qb_RoadExtract.tif"

However, qb_RoadExtract.tif doesn't seem to be included on OSGeo-Live. This should be addressed, probably by referencing one of the default datasets.

This is because we removed the demo otb data from the disk some versions ago. I agree, the quickstart should point to locally available data.

fwiw the quickstart does begin with: "Sample data used in this quickstart can be found here: http://www.orfeo-toolbox.org/packages/OTB-Data-Examples.tgz"

there seems to be a spurious word "See" in the line above that?

I just removed that extra word.

any suggestions for improvements in wording? or shall we keep the current quickstart dependency on downloading external data?

Is there any high resolution optical image available in local? In this case I can rework the OTb quickstart to illustrate available algorithms.

Last update regarding OTB tutorials is a set of new exercises which use OTB-Applications (available in Sextante) with Pleiades samples images available on Astrium website):

http://blog.orfeo-toolbox.org/news/new-courses-on-pleiades-images-analysis-with-the-orfeo-toolbox

I can also refer to this course but as the OTB-Examples package it is too large to be integrated in osgeolive.

Hi,

although there is indication where to download the sample data from, there is no reason why the user should then find the data in the folder /home/user/otb/qb_RoadExtract.tif indicated in the tutorial. Perhaps this gap should be filled with something like:

" Please download the data from ... and extract them in the folder /home/user/otb/"

or providing command line instructions (mkdir, wget, etc)

Thanks, madi

I've just add a recommendation in the quickstart to download and extract otb-data examples (revision 12002).

I did provide command line instructions.

Soory, I did not provide command line instructions for now. Tell me if it is needed.

There is a new pull request which now uses the North Caroline dataset.

Hi all, I'd like to contribute to OSGeo-Live for OTB. I confirm that my contributions to OSGeo-Live will be compatible with the OSGeo-Live license guidelines at the time of contribution. I have made a pull request : https://github.com/OSGeo/OSGeoLive-doc/pull/75
