Description
How should we deal with this task this time? I propose to have a green theme as per Nottingham colors.

Thanks for the update. I would prefer "7.0" to be as transparent as "OSGeoLive". Thoughts?

I like the globe-thing and I think it has been well received by others I have shown it to..
The green-white fade is not so great.. its possible that making it all lighter, with no blackened area might be better..
from past experience I think the icons area at top-left has to be close to white..
Depending on monitor resolution the icons can stretch all the way down the left side in one column or two...
I am happy to see in one other high-res setup that things are scaling nicely..
Lastly, the type is not great and needs an improvement..
the basicis of the coloring and special effects must relate to the desktop color, so that has to be first, then the type.
I had a far-fetched thought about an old-style medieval banner across the globe-thing
creating a flat surface to say "Nottingham" and other possible corny stuff with a Robin Hood theme or whatever, but we are not close to that now and my illustration skills are rusty.. but a possibility..
