User Account Control problem with v.patch (grass) (was: grass (v.patch) need libintl-8.dll)

Reported by: jdenisgiguere Owned by: osgeo4w-dev@…
Priority: major Component: Package
Version: Keywords: wingrass, libintl-8.dll

Description

Trying to use grass 6.4.0-svn3 from osgeo4w using Windows Vista, I get the following error message:

"The application has failed to start because libintl-8.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

Are there known workarounds?

Is there a package from which I could install missing file.

Best regards,

libintl-8.dll is in the grass package. You should have it in %OSGEO4W_ROOT%/bin

I can find the file where you point in.

When I launch v.patch, I get an "User Account Control" Windows (Security alert). I don't know if this could be related to my problem.

I'm exploring potential cause.

Summary: grass (v.patch) need libintl-8.dllUser Account Control problem with v.patch (grass) (was: grass (v.patch) need libintl-8.dll)

Disabling User Account Control make v.patch work.

Is it an acceptable fix?

r.patch and v.patch do not work on 32bit Vista: apparently Windows's security measures think that "patch" is a dangerous word. (see bug https://trac.osgeo.org/grass/ticket/759).

assuming that the libintl-8.dll problem was also resolved, then yes.
