Description
Could we get mailing lists set up for FOSS4G NA 2013. We need two lists right now: FOSS4GNA2013-LOC Local Organizing Committee List FOSS4GNA2013-Program Program Committee
Thanks!

The rationale for a new list each year is that the organizing group is completely different from one year to the next. There is no previous list for the North America event as that list was hosted outside of OSGeo. Additionally planning a conference often takes more than a year and as such subsequent years may overlap each other.

The rational makes sense, I'm just concerned with clutter. Do we have or can we make a policy to retire certain lists at various dates, to keep the mail list management cleaner? With such a plan in place I have no objections to the list creation.
If we retire lists, we should of course ensure archives exist in appropriate places before removing them from the list server.

I think getting rid of the clutter makes a lot of sense. To me, one year should be sufficient for any wrap up communication about a conference (ie finances, getting presentations posted etc.). I think this policy would need to be something pushed through SAC and forwarded to the Board with a limited scope to deal with event planning lists. As to these specific lists, I am happy to recommend removal of the lists one year after close of the conference.

Is there anything holding up getting this list for now with regard to getting a policy in place?

You can disregard this request. Creating lists on Google Groups.
I'd prefer not to make a new list every single year. Can we make a generic non-year specific list and keep reusing?
