Logrotate not configured correctly

Description
Possibly a relic of old configurations most but not all vhosts on the projects vm (and likely all our other machines) use _log for their apache log file name.
The problem is that in Debian based distros Logrotate is only configured to look for *.log. So we now have multi GB log files filling our machines that have not been rotated and compressed.
On Projects I temporarily add *_log and have started a forced rotate (using nice -n 19).
I would like feedback on if we should just add that configuration to all the machines or if we should clean out _log and replace with .log in the vhost files (and rename the existings logs).
I'm not going to touch the awstats ticket until we resolve this.

I've left it for now, we do need to address that only 52 weeks will be kept with the current logrotate cycling. Will come back to that part in a few weeks.

guess not.
I don't know which solution is more "standard" but just no log should get lost (and disk space is there). Thanks for the cleanup and standardization.
