LinkedIn group 67505 -- OSGeo

Description
some spam appeared recently, and also ArcGIS training ads.. The group has 13,000+ members
admins: mneteler, arnulf, dmorisette, mloskot, marc vloemans
Today, there is one profile with an Arab name in Canada, who posted an ad for Rio Tinto, an ad to apply to work at Walmart, ad to work for cheap security jobs, ad to work at Deloitte, ad to work at the Canada IRS in French, and an ad for French language LinkedIn tutorials.. so I am using the 'report spam' feature on those...several ads for entry level GIS work in Africa in French.. So I will not report those.. same with the Arc*IS training .. slightly on topic..

Thanks @darkblue for raising a concern. Maybe we could have a component here on Trac for the Marketing committee so tickets are also shared on the mailing list as we do with SAC tickets?
@neteler let me know if I can help on this task. I am admin of the OSGeo company page (4.5K followers), not super busy but steadily active with a few mentions and follows every day.
On the other hand, I was totally unaware of this group, even being a member, can't remember since when! Anyways, the group is "private listed" (why?) and yet it has 13K members so this is a large potential audience we should take care of, or shut down completely, but better not leaving it unattended.

Yes, help is much welcome (see also below).

The reason I don't remember... but since we have 13k members, it seems to be fine. What is means (citation from LinkedIn help):
Private Listed: The group appears in search results, is visible to others on members’ profiles, and LinkedIn users can see whether a connection is a member. Group members can see posts in this group.
and yet it has 13K members so this is a large potential audience we should take care of, or shut down completely, but better not leaving it unattended.
So, definitely take care of it and no shut down as it took us ages to build it up. I will continue to maintain it but not just me (see my remark above). For now, I have cleaned up a lot.
And I took liberty to make you, jsanz, also admin of the group :-)

Thanks @neteler for the detailed response.
I've created and added this ticket to a new Marketing component and set up the mailing list to received messages from here.

Perfect, I've never managed a linkedin group but if I need any assistance I'll ping you and likewise, drop me a line if you see anything I can tackle, anytime.
Closing this ticket, please @darkblue feel free to reopen if you see anything else needing our attention.
I have started to clean up the mess (and blocked some users).
However, like some SAC activities, this moderation job might rather come with some financial compensation (IMHO).
