Unable to create new LDAP user

Rob Emanuele (ie rdemanuele@…) is trying to create an osgeo id so we can provide write access to the geotools maven repository.

I tried to create an OSGeo ID here: ​https://www.osgeo.org/cgi-bin/ldap_create_user.py a number of times, but I am getting a "User Creation Failed" error message (with no other info provided). Is there another way I should be creating an ID?

Until Frank (or others) that have the power to fix this come online, I usually answer these issues by telling the user to create a username without any special characters (in any of the fields)...80% of the time this is the issue.

I have improved the error reporting (we neglected to <pre> format the error message). Unfortunately, we are still apparently restricted to not include non-ascii characters in the ldap id.

Thanks. Can we also add a 'NOTE' or 'WARNING' block of text on the creation page, stating to not use special characters? ​https://www.osgeo.org/cgi-bin/ldap_create_user.py
