- Yes, the domain is registered
- Yes, It has been announced several times and it follows the "foss4g-*.org" regexp, used in other conferences. Domain name change can be considered.
- So yes, it means Europe, as said, people are OK with that and it was discussed, nobody complained till now (which of course can change during time).
- Not sure about subdomains, but would e.g. "2014.europe.foss4g.org" look better?
Currently following tasks would be nice to have: # Possibility to upload simple static pages for the main page "foss4g-e.org" # Either possibility to redirect the "2014.foss4g-e.org" to existing external server, or (even better), offer space on OSGeo servers (I'll clarify their needs then, suppose MySQL and PHP or similar things...) # setup mail server, with addresses contact@..., press@..., sponsors@... # rename "foss4g-cee@…" to "foss4g-e@...."
# Who will have access: one question: who has 'osgeo account'? Is that me, since registered on trac? Or how can I get one? How can anybody else? Thakns for clarificaiton.
Thank you very kindly for your statement and opinion, how to organize the infrastructure (if so). We can clarify this at Board meeting, if you prefer http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Board_Meeting_2013-10-17#Agenda

I'll refer this discussion to the Marketing/Outreach committee, I don't think it's ever been discussed as an org, people just went out and bought domains. Consolidating would actually save everyone money since subdomains cost $0 vs. $10-15/year (US $). The catch is loss of autonomy from SAC, you'd need someone on SAC to update the DNS when you move servers around (of course someone from your board can join SAC). +side is you can ask SAC for help with DNS.
- So yes, it means Europe, as said, people are OK with that and it was discussed, nobody complained till now (which of course can change during time).
- Not sure about subdomains, but would e.g. "2014.europe.foss4g.org" look better?
I would have done europe.foss4g.org/2014 maybe with alias eu.foss4g and euro.foss4g (with the main url defaulting to current year. But that's my personal opinion from my own experiences. (ie I never remember foss4g-na I almost always have to do a search for it).
Currently following tasks would be nice to have: # Possibility to upload simple static pages for the main page "foss4g-e.org"
So straight apache? Sure we can do that, perhaps on adhoc right now if you're not sure what you plan to do.
# Either possibility to redirect the "2014.foss4g-e.org" to existing external server, or (even better), offer space on OSGeo servers (I'll clarify their needs then, suppose MySQL and PHP or similar things...) # setup mail server, with addresses contact@..., press@..., sponsors@...
Please clarify where these should redirect to, we don't host email boxes only redirects and lists.
# rename "foss4g-cee@…" to "foss4g-e@...."
We should resolve the domain question before changing the name. So this is a merger?
# Who will have access: one question: who has 'osgeo account'? Is that me, since registered on trac? Or how can I get one? How can anybody else? Thakns for clarificaiton.
Yes, if you logged into trac that is an OSGeo account.

After the LOC meeting, we would like to ask you for
- creating europe.foss4g.org with static index.html file (I would like with user name 'jachym' have access to the file, so I could add there basic informations). Also europe.foss4g.org/2014 should point to http://kahlua.eecs.jacobs-university.de/~foss4g-europe/
- if possible, several e-mail aliases would be needed for now
- contact at europe.foss4g.org -> foss4g-europe-board at googlegroups.com
- sponsors at europe.foss4g.org -> jachym.cepicky at gmail.com, s.ebrecht at jacobs-university.de, p.baumann at jacobs-university.de
- program at europe.foss4g.org -> jachym.cepicky at gmail.com, s.ebrecht at jacobs-university.de, p.baumann at jacobs-university.de
- research at europe.foss4g.org -> jachym.cepicky at gmail.com, s.ebrecht at jacobs-university.de, p.baumann at jacobs-university.de
- press at europe.foss4g.org -> jachym.cepicky at gmail.com, s.ebrecht at jacobs-university.de, p.baumann at jacobs-university.de
If possible (?) Names for aliases might change in the future. Is that a problem? Any solution, which would avoid your future intervention?
Big thanks!

Would it also be possible to rename foss4g-cee mailng list to foss4g-europe (change the list address, not only the title) ?
Thanks

Jachym, I'm starting work on renaming the mailing list now.
It's not immediately clear to me what previous work in this ticket is still outstanding.

I don't actually see a foss4g-cee mailing list in existance, so I'm confused about this work item.

I made progress on this today:
- Added A record to DNS for europe.foss4g.org (points to empty dir /var/www/foss4g/europe)
- Added a Proxy from /2014 to the above web address
Can someone else help Jachym get access to webextra to add html to the above folder.

Proposed solution from the organisation commitee:
- could you please link the domain europe.foss4g.org to http://kahlua.eecs.jacobs-university.de/~foss4g-europe/, so that the wordpress page running there would show similar content, as foss4g-e.org currently does? We were talking about future archiving and we've found solution there. But currently, the page has to be hosted on Bremen-server and they have difficulties with the europe.foss4g.org/2014 link.
- We really would more then welcome, if there would be sponsors@… and contact@… mail addresses, so we could communicate with the public on propper manner.
- I would like to ask you to rename conference-cee mailing list to conference-europe, whit all already registered people to cee. In case, you consider it inpropper, please just create empty mailing list and I'll send information e-mail separately.
Thank you

Frank, just to clarify: we need the mailing list "conference-cee" (http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/conference-cee) changed to "conference-europe"

OK, I've cloned conference-cee to conference-europe and redirected the main mailing address. I haven't deleted the old list pending confirmation that the new one looks good.

Looks good Frank, you can remove 'conference-cee'. Thanks for tackling this yesterday.
Can you be more specific about your needs? What software and how much space do you think you need? Who (What osgeo accounts) need access to set this up?
Also, I'll point out the foss4g-e is a terrible domain name, people rarely remember dashes. I'll admit that even I have no idea what this is for, is this Europe? did you consider just using subdomains of foss4g instead of buying a new one? Did you buy the domain already?
