Description
It would be nice if resource nodes on the site explorer had some tooltips that shows some information about the resource (when the mouse pointer is over it)
eg. Showing resource type.

That sounds about right. I think that is a good enough summary that doesn't involve opening the resource in an editor or viewing its properties.
In my case, it's trying to figure out whether this resource is a map definition, web layout or fusion layout (the icons didn't really help) :-)
