"Properties available in viewer" not being saved

Description
Using v2.1.2.5125 - I've got a layer with 3 properties. If I make any changes to the "Properties available in viewer" section regarding the visibility, my changes do not get saved. For example, by default, nothing is selected. If I select one of the 3 items, and save, my layer still shows no properties in the pane (when viewed from my layout).
I seem to be able to get it to save by checking "all" (using the single button to select all). My layer then shows all items....but then if I want to turn some off, again, my changes do not get saved. The only way I can get it to work is by editing the xml manually.

Could this be related to ticket 1271? I noticed that if I change the visibility of an item, the tab does not get the "*" after the name...
