Minutes

  • GRASS GIS 8 release schedule
    • we are at a very good point
    • lots of conferences upcoming where GRASS GIS 8 will be advertised in talks and demo sessions
    • Martin to provide basic "WinGRASS 8" instructions on the Wiki, Vero happy to beautify them
  • GRASS GIS 7.8.6 release schedule
    • almost RC1 stage, just the g.extension troubles on Windows to be solved (several PRs pending)
  • Management of addons
    • idea: turn addons into pip-installable packages, change g.extension accordingly
  • Reorganizing addons repo
    • idea: change directories to branches (g6, g7, g8), keep main branch only for backward compatibility
    • start with moving GRASS GIS 6 related addons to a separate branch
    • the question is how to maintain G7 and G8 addons in parallel (backport cherry picking, ...)
    • importantly, changes in g.extension are needed
  • Sponsoring
    • Two options: OpenCollective or NUMFocus (originally founded by numpy etc).
    • it would be ideal if OSGeo takes the role of being the fiscal host
    • OpenCollective: The OSGeo treasurer has already registered the GRASS GIS project under the hood of OSGeo on OpenCollective:
    • NUMFocus: an alternative (e.g., GDAL is currently requesting to be hosted there)
  • RFC C/C++ version:
  • RFC Python version support:
  • Current request on grass-web to make i.segment a stand-alone software
    • could be through conda but that's not complete: packaging is tricky
    • it would be great to reach pip install grass at some point
    • they might better write to grass-dev rather than grass-web
  • Marketing / presence in social media
  • Upcoming conferences:
    • FOSSGIS GRASS GIS 8 presentation: 50min of demo session
    • FOSS4G GRASS presentations
  • GSoC 2021
    • some students have signed up, update coming soon on 17th of May 2021
  • add more here
