This ticket suggests to enable showing computational region extent by default (see Map Display statusbar -> Show comp. extent).

First step implemented in r72381. New settings option to enable showing computational extent added, see GUI preferences -> Map Display -> Show computational region extent:

This option is disabled by default, any objections to enable it for next main release (7.6)?
