r.external gui does not display layer in list of layers when selected via browse button

Description
r.external gui does not display the layer selected via the browse button in the List of raster layers window. Therefore no raster layers can be selected to link. Testing on Windows 7, but was observed with builds over the previous week on windows 10.
current build is r68669
Checking backwards, issue was also in build r68492
Command line version works as expected.

Just bumping for windows. r.external works fine with respect to this issue on Linux as of Saturday, but this is still an issue on windows.
