Description
It would be useful if users could choose which info (scale, region extent, grid) should mapinfo display (something like 'scale y/n'). I think the case you want scale only is quite common.
Another possibilty is to split mapinfo into more objects, so that you could add information about scale and region extent separately. Now only one mapinfo can be added.

It could partly solve the problem. It would be more meaningful for 'comments' and 'text' than for 'header' instruction which can be placed above the map only.
But I still think this should be done by mapinfo. It would make mapinfo more usable.
