Overview
Revise CSW support in order to serve as the OGC Reference Implementation for CSW v2.0.2. This will modify Java code in the CSW and kernel/CSW directories, and some stylesheets under web/geonetwork/xml. The validation schemas for CSW 2.0.1 are replaced by new ones for CSW 2.0.2.
Proposal Type
- Type: CSW modules only, including some CSW-related kernel services and stylesheets
- App: GeoNetwork
- Module: CSW, Kernel, web

Motivations
The current development version of GeoNetwork does not support the newest version of the CSW specification. A number of ambiguities in the 2.0.1 specification have been clarified in 2.0.2 and should be reflected in the GeoNetwork implementation in order for GeoNetwork to serve as a reference implementation for the protocol.
Proposal
Propose to implement changes to bring the GeoNetwork CSW server into 100% compliance with the OGC OWS-5 CITE test suite. Revisions to the GeoNetwork Java and XSL code are well-isolated, so modifications to implement CSW 2.0.2 should not affect other parts of the system.
Backwards Compatibility Issues
This will eliminate compatibility with earlier versions of CSW. Backwards compability would be unlikely to work in any event because v2.0.2 fixes ambiguities in earlier versions that have caused interoperability problems.
Risks
Revisions have been tested and shown to be compliant with the CSW 2.0.2 test suite, so risks are minimal.
