Motion to change the GeoNetwork documentation license
Proposed by: Jeroen Ticheler
Date: 26-11-2010
Motion passed: 08-12-2010
The GeoNetwork documentation is currently released under a restrictive version of the Creative Commons, namely the Attribution-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported license. People can't re-use the documentation for their own projects where they often need to modify part of the content to suite their needs. The license prevents people from easily contributing documentation back to the project.
The motion proposes to change the documentation license to the less restrictive version of the Creative Commons that allows for commercial use and allows to create new versions based on the GeoNetwork documentation.
The license proposed is the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License.
The license says:
You are free:
- to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work
- to Remix — to adapt the work
Under the following conditions:
- Attribution — You must attribute GeoNetwork opensource documentation to GeoNetwork opensource developers (with link to http://geonetwork-opensource.org).
Attribute this work:
- Share Alike — If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under the same or similar license to this one.
Note: This does not affect the software license!
