When versioning is on, switching views creates a new version

Description
Using 2.8 nightly build from June 12/2012
When editing a metadata record with versionning enabled, each time a the view is switched (ie, by group - iso minimum, iso core, iso all, by package.....) a new version is added to the subversion repository This is creating excessively large number of versions.

The original idea was to create a new version on database commit. In the editor, changing the menu tab in the editor saves the record (to the database and index) before redisplaying in the new tab (changing this behaviour was listed as a ticket already but I can't find the ticket number at present!).
New versions should also not be created unless changes are actually present (which is actually a different ticket you've already created).
