Combine reference map and interactive map in both web and widgets interface

Not everyone wants to see a map in the search area. Some people just want to do a search for data. However if they do want to see a map then there is no reason to have two maps. IE. the reference map and the interactive map should be combined.

The combination of the reference map functions onto the interactive map would reduce the demand on web page landscape and make the interface more user friendly.

The reference map allows a user to select a search bounding box and to show the bounding boxes of the metadata records that meet a submitted search. These two functions could also be made available on the interactive map. In doing so there is no need for the reference map and hence the reference map could be replaced by the interactive map. This would allow the layout of the interface to be more compact and user friendly.

If a user wants to see a map then they should be able to select a button or arrow to display the map. On this one map they can see the extent of each metadata record, select a search area, view different WMS and manipulate those displayed WMS layers.
