Default editor displays too many elements

Description
Since 2.4, the default editor shows too many elements, that it did not used to show before. I have attached 2 screenshots of a new metadata in GN220 and in GN24x, made from the same template.
This appears to have been introduced in metadata.xsl revision 2723 (where xalan:nodeset was replaced by exslt:node-set, and the merge for 'AjaxEditorControlsAndValidation' was applied) where a condition in a part of template 'elementEP' on Not Simple Mode was disabled, "for the time being" according to an inline comment.
After re-introducing that condition in NGR's version of GN, the old (intended) behaviour was back and it does not seem to cause any harmful side effects. There I propose applying the same to GN24x and trunk.
