#3752 closed defect (wontfix)
Handling the ASCII grid files (extension .asc)

Component: | GDAL_Raster | Version: | unspecified |
Severity: | normal | Keywords: | aaigrid |

Description
At this very moment GDAL can not handle leading spaces in the asc files. For that reason these files must first be checked and changed before GDAL can be used. This is very time consuming. Is it possible for any of you to change the source in such a way that leading spaces "are ignored/are of no importance". The same holds for a /* comment line, is it possible to just skip these lines?
Thank you and greetings Lou Verhage, Deltares, Netherlands

Lou,
Could you attach smallish samples demonstrating the problems you are encountering, and if possible indicate what software package generated them?
