ogr2ogr throws an error while exporting geojson data to postgis database

Description
Try to upload data from *.geojson file to PostGIS database with ogr2ogr utility. All works fine. But if set -lco GEOMETRY_NAME='the_geom' option - get an error: "ERROR 1: AddGeometryColumn failed for layer ogrgeojson, layer creation has failed". GDAL version - 1.7.3.

Did you check that the user used to connect to the PostGIS DB has write rights on the geometry_columns (and spatial_ref_sys) tables ?
