The instructions for migrating a mailman list from another system says to "get the .mbox files, and the whole /var/lib/mailman/lists/<listname> directory".

If you can zip that up and put it somewhere I can grab it I may be able to preserve the existing configuration quite closely.

Thanks a lot for your answer.

The files you requested are available int this archive: http://gisws.media.osaka-cu.ac.jp/zoo-MLs.zip .

If anything is missing please feel free to ask.

Should the lists also be added to the OSGeo Nabble archive(1). If it's the case I'll add them to the projects forum and will ask for the migration of the mboxes ASAP.

@jsanz: I am the Nabble list admin for ZOO, I will request the migration to the Nabble admins now.

@jsanz ok I misread your message. Yes the lists should be added to the OSGeo Nabble forum. I'll await your response in how to proceed.

comment:6 by jsanz, 13 years ago

@jmackenna as soon as the lists are created I'll put them under a ZOO forum at the OSGeo projects category. And when the lists archives are also migrated I'll ask Nabble team to take the mboxes and add to the lists the full history there.

So, I think nothing is needed on your part at least until I create the forums, just to check archiving is OK.

Folks,

I see I dropped the ball on this - sorry about that. I'll try to get this setup over the next couple days.

Gerald,

The .mbox files are the html format archives. I need the mbox file. It is usually a directory something like /var/lib/mailman/archives/private/zoo-psc.mbox

+martin who I will likely need to activate the list once it has been migrated.

Dear Martin and Frank, many thanks for your help in the migration of the ZOO-Discuss and ZOO-PSC mailing list and sorry for the inconvenience about wrong file format.

You can find the requested files here :

I don't know about case sensitivity of mailing list names but if possible we would like to keep the upper case name.

@aboureault, do you think you could take care of this? Seems to be blocked with the archives import.

comment:12 by aboudreault, 12 years ago

djay, should I still import these archives to do the import? Are they up-to-date?

aboudreault, I don't have access so I cannot confirm but I guess you have to import the archive.

Hi Alan, From what I 've seen lately the mailing list is having problems the last couple of weeks. I think it would be safe to add the archive you already have.

Cheers, Angelos

comment:16 by aboudreault, 12 years ago

I've imported the archives into both mailing list. Could anyone test the lists please?

comment:17 by Gérald Fenoy, 12 years ago

Thanks a lot for this aboudreault !

I tested to subscribe the mailing and it worked.

I don't know the password you setup for the administration interface so I cannot access to it. Did you give the password to somebody ?

I note that you didn't use the upper case, if it is possible please use the following syntaxe for the mailing list name : ZOO-Discuss and ZOO-PSC . There is a lot of mailing lists with upper case, so it should be possible.

I would like to know if we will force each subscriber to subscribe again on the new mailing server or if we can recover the mailing list subcribers also ?

comment:18 by kalxas, 12 years ago

Hi djay, I confirm this, I was able to subscribe too.

I think that the previous subscribers have to be exported by previous list admin interface and batch imported to osgeo list by the admin interface.

I recall that Tom did something like this for pycsw.

Cheers, Angelos

djay, I've set the same list owner of the zoo-psc created by frank; vragvan at yahoo. And sent the password to him.

Thanks all but I have not received the admin password for zoo-discuss and zoo-psc that was created on the OSGeo list server. Would it be possible to send again to vragvan@… or venka.osgeo@…. If possible, please add gerald.fenoy@… as list admin too.

Thanks for all the help and sorry for the trouble.
