Reported by: arnulf Owned by: warmerdam
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: SysAdmin/DNS Keywords: domain
Cc: pramsey@…, jive

Description

Request ot make http://postgis.osgeo.org to an A record to the existing http://postgis.org domain. This would provide DNS redundancy should a domain expire etc.

Or please suggest alternatives.

Sorry didn't even know this task was here.

postgis.org is not under osgeo jurisdiction. That is owned by Refractions who refused to give up the domain for PostGIS use. postgis.net is the domain owned by osgeo.org.

Can you instead repoint postgis.osgeo.org -- to postgis.net, or actually you can just get rid of it period. I don't think there is any benefit to having postgis.osgeo.org since no one knows about that domain.

Thanks, Regina

Hi Regina, I've checked the settings and postgis.osgeo.org already points to postgis.net -jeff

But I agree, something wonky is happening with that domain........

Regina you need to accept "postgis.osgeo.org" as a ServerName for the "postgis.net" IP, or right now Jenkins responds to that URL. But then I guess we'd have SSL issues, so it would need to be a redirect, not an IP alias, unless you define another virtual host just for that domain.

All in all it may be just simpler to drop that domain as you suggest...

I've removed that CNAME record now from our OSGeo domain settings.

I think we're good like this.
