livedvd: new way to set desktop background

Description

Hi,

our install_desktop.sh script uses the xfconf-query program to set the xfce desktop background. The new version of this in ub9.10 wants to see a X server running(?), so we'll have to find another way.

** (process:18477): CRITICAL **: Failed to init libxfconf:
/bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally with the following error:
 Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed.

I'm not sure this is an issue, yet. The current build process is to run the scripts within a default Xubuntu desktop install on a virtual machine(Which means X is running). I did not get this error in my test. This may become an issue as we move to try and build from a headless server.

(Which means X is running)

ok.

Q: in your latest build do the desktop icons show up correctly? and not prompt for a security confirmation? In the 9.10 Ubuntu GNOME desktop the user should own the icon, and the *.desktop file must have a shebang line and the file have its executable bit set. I'm wondering it it's the same for Xubuntu.

I can confirm that the desktop background was loaded successfully when installed by logging into the liveDVD (through a virtual machine) and hence having the desktop running. (tested in 3.0alpha3).

Hence I'm closing the issue.

Hamish, desktop images do seem to show up correctly on the desktop (in 3.0alpha3).

Replying to wildintellect:

I did not get this error in my test.

yeah you did. check out line 29009 of the 3.0alpha4 build log.

Yup, and I knew it would since I'm having problems with VMWare and 9.10 and can't login to the gui this particular build was done on the shell, which is actually a deviation from the normal. But it does highlight why I said this would become an issue at some point.

How about we just replace the default image with a new one.

Also, I'll probably file a related ticket that we need a new background image and some other branding stuff done.

./install_desktop.sh now seems to work ok in the Lucid release. closing.
