GRASS server statistics

Hi,

at the recent Osaka meeting we discussed with Tyler OSGeo Marketing strategies. An obvious data source are the Web site logs. I can provide grass.itc.it Apache logs from 2002 onwards which might be a valuable resource to explore. Since awstats will accept all files in the logs/ directory, those files will just be processed as well.

Additionally, access might be lost to grass.itc.it from Jan 2008 onwards, so I suggest to copy files over in any case.

File sizes: 2.2GB in approx 330 files (access, error and referer split).

(Un)related to this ticked, I would like to ask for Web statistics for grass.osgeo.org:

 http://download.osgeo.org/logs-bin/awstats.pl?config=grass.osgeo.org

Apparently it needs "only" the awstats config file which could be cloned from an existing setup.

I have the configuration ready, but we should have your old access logs first. Is a .tgz available online somewhere for me to grab them from?

I have uploaded the files to grass.osgeo.org (xblade14-2) at /home/neteler/grass_apache_logs/.

One issue might be to get the logrotate numbers right or to replace the recent files with those from grass.osgeo.org.

Please use [s]cp -p to preserve the timestamps.

I started the processing and it's run for several days. It looks like it will complete in the next few days. Keep your eye on it at: http://www.osgeo.org/awstats/awstats.pl?config=grass

Others in SAC can see the process running as a "perl" process under my username. If it fails to complete by Friday, then update this ticket. I don't have much time to focus on this at the moment, so if others in SAC have time to investigate after, that would help.

It's still churning away and is definitely making progress, but really slowly.

I'm marking this as resolved. The imported complete, but is not set up to do any further updates from the log files. Hopefully someone else can take it from here. I'm not sure how/where the grass main site is now residing, but I assume the awstats grass files will need to be moved over to wherever it is now hosted.

Only April has to be reprocessed, I try to manage that.
