    1313One roadblock to this would be the current reliance on Berkeley DBXML for the repository structure, as licensing for this module is too onerous for many desktop developers.  Perhaps file-based XML storage could be an option?

     15The Qt toolkit would be a nice foundation to base a desktop-based MapGuide on. It is cross-platform, also written in C++, has a rich set of features and as of v4.5 (the current release) is licensed under the same terms as MapGuide itself (LGPL).
