Description

For: http://trac.osgeo.org/grass/wiki/HowToTestGrass6

Whilst testing the OSGeo Live DVD (vm version) I followed the instructions to further test the installation. I am not a user of the wxGui so it was interesting. Errors or improvements:

1) In section 'Using wxPython graphical user interface: Digitizing: line 3' I would suggest that zoom is done to the elevation map after the addition of the ortho map (the ortho overlies it anyway). This way the selection of a house to digitise will be in the map area when 3D vector and visualisation is done. The first house I picked was outside of the elevation map and subsequently wasn't in the 3D visualisation, so had to start again.

2) Same section: line 5, there is no Tools menu. I looked for while (I could have used v.digit but wanted to follow the instructions as a new user would). I suggest text 'Select Digitise from the drop-down box in the top-right corner of the map window (currently set at 2DView)'. Unless I am missing something obvious!

3) Same section: line 8, very minor but for consistency, "Quit" instead of "Close". I could change this myself but as other bits needed verification, have left it here.

Hope you don't think I am being too pedantic,

Cheers

John

I've tested this a little bit in Wingrass.

under http://trac.osgeo.org/grass/wiki/HowToTestGrass6#SeeAlso

there are some examples for raster, vector, image processing and interpolation actions (grasstestrast.txt, grasstestvect.txt, grasstestinterp.txt, grasstestimg.txt).

most of them are working under Wingrass.

if you are assuming in the windows world the default is the WinGrass-WxGUI (only with the wx-gui-commandline and without a msys-command-line or any other command-line), following are not working in the examples:

  • d.erase: it's not implemented in the wx-gui-command-line, you have to use the erase-button in the wx-gui
  • there are some examples where echo is used (e.g. echo "634886 224328 1"|v.in.ascii out=fire_pt fs=space), this isn't working from the wx-gui-command-line
